Greenpeace is keeping the pressure on businesses by evaluation and then undertaking following up to seek tangible evidence of a business's claim of being greener.
The latest from Greenpeace places Nokia at the top of its green rating in the Electronics goods market for envoironmentally friendly products. (link)
The Greenpeace program does not include power efficiency currently but will, hopefully it will also include the ICT equipment manufacturers very soon also. Howgreenisit already specialises in power efficiency for ICT and can carry-out independent evaluations for clients on Green ratings for differing ranges of equipment and their ROI/cost of ownership.
Greenpeace mean's business, and are ensuring that businesses mean what they say. The ICT world is no different to any other business - a lot of claims, but are they really working that hard at it? Manufacturers are now regulated to ensure compliance to ROHS standards and are required to provide safe disposal as stipulated by the WEEE regulations. We are still however only scratching the surface.
